Hi, I have two requests; 1. what does Die Feggel mean? 2. Can anyone assist me in learning this language? I am currently living in Florida thoughI waqs born and raised in the Philadelphia area and always enjoyed going to PennDutch Country and have always wanted to learn the language. As I am currently only a short distance away (Florida) I will have to learn to read and wrie first which will serve me well when I return to Pa. . Then when I go to the market, if I caqn't say it I can write it and from there I will learn to speak it and make new friends at the same time and have fun in doing so. One more question. A dctionary: PennDutch/English....does one exist and how can I obtain one? Thank You

Hello, cool, that you intend to learn this language... I wish you a lot of fun and success with it. To your first question: "Die Feggel"- Do you mean "Die Fehgel"(long e)? That would mean "The birds" from Modern High German "Die Vögel". 2. My Tipp: The best might be, if you learn Standard German(for example with the" for Dummies-Seris") then I could show you tricks, how to construat the Dialekt, with some "special" Words... Dictionary: You could buy ä "Hessisch" and "Schwäbisch" Liliput from Langenscheidt (a German Publishing House). Not all of the Words belong to Pennsylvania Dutch, but PD is kind of a mix of these Dialekts, and so this both might be helpful... just look for them at www.amazon.deGood Luck- jannick

P.S.: Just to make sure, you understand me correctly: The PD mainly consist of Modern High German, pronounced in a special way, or modified in a certain way... if you can Modern High German you just need a list of tricks, and as Candy a bagfull of special words, to speak PD
