Guder dag forumleser! Well, I have been watching a number PA video lessons and I have regretabably learnt that PA Dutch speaker have fewer liguistic ties with European German, than the Qebecios have with European French, or speakers of American English have with British English. Apparentlly, PD does have some of it's own compound words, like Schwetzkaschde and Guckbax, fine but I find it very strange that they mosty use the English word where there isn't already a PD term, even when European German has one made by compounding words that already exist even in PD.
Do PA Dutch speakers out there at least half-know terms like Faarad and Schtrassebaan.
Most modern technology (post industrial revolution) terms that are in British English are also in Englishes beyond the British Isles, and and as far as I know, the Quebecois use much the same modern technology terms as the French, such as velo. Thus I've had a hard time getting around the fact that PD nevetheless doesn't use most modern technology terms that European German has, and yes I have a reason to believe that these terms would be used in most European Mundart, including Paelzisch.
Doe anyone here things like "Ich mag Motorrad zu faare," or "In Westfilladelfi gebt's viele Strassebaane?" In other words, have any of the few speakers that do know these terms try to incorperate them?
Mind you many modern technology terms in English are classical compounds, while most such terms in other Germanic languages including European German are native compounds.
Bis die naegschde Poscht, macht's gut un schwetzt Deitsch!
