Hi, I've seen that phrase on the web before, associated with Western Pennsylvania I think. I just did a quick check and found it listed here, for example: encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Pittsburgh%20accentassociating it with Pittsburgh, PA. I consulted Rev. Stine's Pennsylvania German dictionary and he doesnt show it in the PG section of the dictionary, but he does show it in the English section with: English "redd up" = Pa German "raahme uff". So he apparently sees it as an English phrase. (does it mean "ready up"?) For English "clean up", Pa German would be "butze uff". - Tim

I want to thank you for this site. I am a native German from Rheinland-Pfalz and I am astonished about your language. It basically is the dialect we are speaking in the area where I grew up (around Speyer am Rhein). I can completely understand the language after getting used to the English phonetic spelling and loved your humor page! Thanks again... so much fun! Renate Volz
