Hi: I remember my grandmother using the word 'butry' for pantry. Can anyone tell me the correct spelling for this?

Well, the PA Dutch words for pantry are der Brotschank and der Esschank, among others, I suppose depending on usage. Brot is Deitsch for bread, and Esse is food.
I think your grandmother was just saying "pantry" in a Dutch accent. You could spell it "Bantri." |
